![]() ![]() I especially enjoy encouraging quilters of all levels to try new ~ techniques, color combinations, etc. Lecturing, teaching, and judging give me the opportunity to share my knowledge of all aspects of the quilt making process, from design through construction to the joy of a finished project and even how a quilt is judged. One regular feature was the column Ask Irene where, from a judges perspective, she addressed many questions related to quilt making. I really enjoy seeing the transition a quilt top goes through as it is quilted and the third dimension emerges. I loved the idea of the blue and white- I mean, really, it’s a classic and so lovely but I wanted to use some of the fabrics in my new Signature Line with Island Batik. I enjoy all aspects of the quilt making process although I have to admit that my particular favorite of the process is designing quilting that will enhance the work of the quilt top. I live in rural Rhode Island with my very supportive mechanical engineer husband, Bob, our West Highland White Terriers Maggie and Freya, and enjoy visits with our two grown-up daughters, Liz and Abby, and grand kids Sophia, Brandon, Tripp, and Weston. In January, 2023 I was thrilled to be honored as a featured quilter in Quiltfolk's issue #25, Rhode Island! My articles, quilt designs, and my quilting have also been published in books, magazines and been on television and published on a DVD. I have been long arming since 1999 have won numerous regional, national, and international awards for quilting my own quilts and those of my customers. Ocean Waves Patch Block Design by Susan Davis - 2017-2021. Part of the fun of making this is playing with the arrangement of colors to create movement. The piecing is easy, but looks very impressive! The block is traditional and the effect is very modern when you use beautiful batiks to piece it.
